Directors sworn in as Members of the KRA Board

Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Ms. Anne Amadi on 18th January 2022, swore in new Members of the Board of Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) following their recent appointment by the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning Prof. Njunguna Ndungu. The five namely Mr. Darshan Shah, Ms. Wilkister M. Simiyu, Dr Fancy Too, Mr. Michael Kamau Kimiru and Mr. Samir Ibrahim were appointed through a gazette notice no. 273 dated 12th January 2023.

The Members of the Board of KRA will provide strategic leadership and direction, drive a policy based governance framework and ensure, through Board committees compliance with obligations. They will also provide oversight of effective discharge of key functions against agreed performance indicators by the management of KRA. They will serve for a period of three (3) years.

Mr. Darshan Shah is a Partner at PKF Kenya LLP and a Director of PKF Taxation Services Limited. He has over twenty-one (21) years’ professional experience in tax advisory, mergers and acquisitions, financial consultancy and audit services. He is a member of PKF Technical Committee and serves as the Head of Assurance for PKF in Eastern Africa. Mr. Shah has been involved in audits and investigations by KRA; advisory related to international tax and tax structuring in Kenya; Policy based tax submissions on behalf of clients and Tax advisory surrounding mergers and acquisitions. Mr Shah is the co-author of the Wiley International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Interpretations Guide 2014 - 2021 and has extensive knowledge and experience of IFRS. He is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda and Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, UK (ACA). Mr Shah is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Certified Accountants (FCCA), UK.

Ms. Wilkister M. Simiyu is the Company Secretary and Head of Legal Services at Kenya Seed Company Limited. She has over ten (10) years' work experience both as a practicing advocate and in-house counsel having worked with Kitiwa &Co., Nyaundi, Tuiyot & Co. and Moi University. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the Moi University and post graduate diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law (KSL), Master in Corporate and Commercial Law from University OF London. She IS CS (K) holder. She joined the company in October 2016.

Dr Fancy Too is the Director, Graduate Programs (LLM and LLD) at the Strathmore University – Law School. She is a resourceful legal expert with deep knowledge on constitutional law, corporate governance, contracts, commercial law, insolvency and intellectual property. She is a legal researcher with experience in legal analysis and reasoning techniques, and an accomplished author and widely published in Insolvency Law. Dr Too has previously served as the Dean at the Kabarak University - School of Law. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the Moi University, Master of Laws (LLM) and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Laws from Nottingham Trent University (United Kingdom). She is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a Member of the Law Society of Kenya.

Mr. Michael Kamau Kimiru is the Head of Governance, Risk and Compliance, at Jubilee Allianz General Insurance Limited. He is a Finance Management and Risk Management professional with over twenty seven (27) years’ of demonstrated leadership and management experience in the Kenyan insurance industry. He has extensive experience in strategic management; financial management; financial reporting; budgetary control management; forecasts and projection models; governance and risk management. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Honours) from Catholic University of Eastern Africa and a Master Degree in Business Administration (Corporate Management) from KCA University. He is a member of the Institute of Certified Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).

Mr. Samir Ibrahim is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Sunculture Kenya Limited, which deals with climate, solar, agriculture, food systems and security, water, financing and Internet of Things. He is also an advisor to Ezra Venture Studio, a team and network of company builders and climate finance experts. He previously worked at PwC’s Financial Services, Structured Products, and Real Estate Group. Mr. Samir has been recognized as a Forbes 30 Under 30, Top Conscious Business Leader by Conscious Company Media, and a World Energy Council Future Energy Leader alumni. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance and International Business from the New York University, Leonard N. Stern School of Business. He is the founder of Shikilia, a collaboration between the private sector and non-profit organizations to raise money and advocate sending of monthly cash transfers to low-income households during the Covid-19 pandemic. He is also a Forum Officer, Nairobi Chapter of the Young Presidents Organization, an Endeavour Entrepreneur and a Future Energy Leader and Alumni, World Energy Council.

Ms.  Jennifer Wangui Gitiri, HSC was appointed to the KRA Board of Directors on 10th January, 2023 as the alternate to the Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya. She is the Corporation Secretary and Deputy Director, Legal Services at the Assets Recovery Agency. She is an experienced legal expert in constitutional law, international law, anti-money laundering, anti-corruption and assets recovery. She previously served as a Principal State Counsel, Office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice. Ms. Gitiri is a Certified Public Secretary (CPS-K) and a trained Financial Action Taskforce (FATF) assessor by the Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group (ESAAMLG). She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a member of the Law Society of Kenya and a Member of the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya.
