The Taxpayers Month (TPM) and Customer Service Week (CSW) celebrations have become a tradition in KRA for the last 18 years. TPM initially began as a day activity, graduated to a week, and currently, a month, which has become synonymous with KRA depicting a human face to appreciate enthusiastic and dedicated Kenyans for the role they play in building the nation through payment of taxes.
Taxpayers’ Month 2022: Leaving No One Behind
The 2022 TPM was launched on 3rd October 2022 with a focus on highlighting KRA’s commitments towards pushing revenue administration to the next level and building on its achievements over the past years. This year’s theme for TPM is ‘Leaving no one behind’. The theme resonates with some of the National Values under article 10(2) of the constitution such as inclusiveness, non-discrimination, human dignity, equality, equity, democracy, and participation of the people. KRA has not only implemented the values but entrenched them in the day-to-day processes to foster cohesion and excellence in service.
Ubuntu Activity
Ubuntu initiative was one of the proposed activities during this year’s TPM, where staff with disabilities were granted an opportunity to share their experiences about working for KRA, whereas the taxpayers gave responses on the Authority’s services. Ubuntu is an ancient African word meaning ‘humanity to others’ It reminds us that ‘I am what I am because of who we all are The Ubuntu initiative provides an opportunity to demonstrate how KRA actualizes this year’s theme of ‘Leaving no one behind" (Pamoja Twaweza).
Measures undertaken by KRA to implement inclusivity
Inclusivity is value number 9 of the 17 National Values in Principles of Governance as espoused under Article 10(2) of the constitution of Kenya 2010. KRA has committed to implementing the Presidential commitments and entrenching the National Values through sensitization and creating awareness among stakeholders.
